China Three Gorges University (CTGU), formally established in 2000, is a public comprehensive institution located in Yichang, Hubei Province, at the heart of the Three Gorges area on the Yangtze River. It was created through the merger of Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering (Yichang campus) and Hubei Sanxia College, inheriting academic traditions that trace back to 1946 and bachelor‑level education that started in 1978. Today, CTGU serves as a key university in Hubei with distinctive strengths in hydropower, water resources, and regional development, while expanding into engineering, medicine, management, science, arts, agriculture, economics, law, and education.
Within this development, CTGU’s medical education has formed an important pillar of the university. The medical faculty has gradually evolved into a comprehensive School of Medicine and Health, offering clinical medicine and related health‑science programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supported by affiliated and teaching hospitals, modern laboratories, and clinical training bases in and around Yichang. Its programs integrate basic medicine, clinical practice, and public health, aligning with the healthcare needs of the Three Gorges region and central China.
China Three Gorges University and its medical programs emphasize cultivating practical and internationally competent medical professionals through the close integration of teaching, research, and clinical service. The MBBS and related English‑medium programs attract a large number of international students, particularly from Pakistan and other Belt and Road countries, and the university maintains cooperation with overseas medical and research institutions, alongside recognition by relevant medical authorities that allows graduates to pursue licensing and careers in multiple countries. Together, CTGU and its medical school have become important bases for talent training, international medical education, and applied research serving both the Three Gorges area and a wider global community
